On The Death Theme Of Donald Barthelme's Snow White

Donald Barthelme is a famous American postmodern writer in the 20th century.He is a prolific writer who left numerous works to the world.He writes in an incisive style directed to social problems;his writing style is very scattering and his text is relatively fragmented which jumped out of the traditional pattern of the novel.Barthelme's magnum opus,"the Snow White" is based on the classic fairy tale "Snow White and the seven dwarfs".One of the characters to this fairy tale is the pure,kind,beautiful image,which has transformed into a lost soul:"the walking dead",which is deeper in the vortex of desire and cannot extricate oneself,until it is swallowed up by the desire of the deep,and to die.The novels are popular among readers and literary critics.The study of previous scholars focused on the text characteristics of post-modernity and feminist perspective.Few scholars analyze the death phenomenon.This article lists the different death phenomenon in the novel.It borrows Freud's instinct theory,death,fear and nihilistic aesthetics,Heidegger's being-towards-death theory,and shows the perspctive meaning behind the death theme of the novel.Further,the unique death narrative techniques of Barthelme is different from others.This thesis begins with the author Barthelme and "Snow White ".This novel made a simple overview,talking from Barthelme's childhood experience to the post-modern context influence on his creation.It summarizes research status of "Snow White Then" from scholars at home and abroad,and highlights the research value and significance of this article.The first part of the body starts from the west to cut different attitudes towards death,and death theme of literary creation has carried on the brief overview,aiming to illustrate the importance of the topic for literary creation;The second part aims at the phenomenon of a variety of death in this paper,and makes an analysis from different angles.The last part explores the significance of the topic.It aims to explain how to not only promote the development of the plot,and the author's special death narrative techniques also brings a different "reading" death experience for readers,causing the reader to the meaning behind the death theme discussion.
