Postmodernism is a complicated term which has emerged as an area of academic study from the mid-20th century. Postmodern novels are widely accepted in America by readers in that period. As a trailblazer of his time, Donald is one of the most influential American postmodern writers. Among his nearly 200 writings, the novel Snow White is his masterpiece and has been considered the classic of American postmodernism novel. The novel has striking and unique aesthetic features. These aesthetic features emanate from the author's bold skills and strategies of postmodernism and deconstruction. Based on former theoretical analysis of postmodernism, this thesis probes into deconstruction of postmodernism novel Snow White with the aim to illustrate how Donald deconstructs textual form, textual meaning and textual content. There are 5 parts in this thesis. Chapter one is the introduction. Chapter two introduces an analyzing visual angle—deconstructionism, under the theory schema of postmodernism. Then it also introduces the relationship between deconstructionism and postmodernism. Besides, based on the theory of postmodernism, this thesis analyzes and demonstrates some features of postmodernism and deconstructionism, including fragmentation, metafiction, parody, irony, collage and intertextuality. Chapter three is closely connected with chapter two. Based on Donald's Snow White as analyzing text material, the thesis represents how Donald uses Snow White to express the features of deconstructionism. Chapter four is the core part of the whole thesis. The writing aim is contained in this part. On the basis of analyzing Donald's Snow White, the thesis states the typical features of postmodernism. Under the extensive consensus of "the death of author", all the postmodernism texts embody the features of anti-plot and nonlinear. Chapter five is the conclusion, which summarizes the major findings and the limitations and suggestions of this thesis for further study.
