Textual Cohesion In Translation

With the developing of text linguistics,we give more attention to the application of cohesion to translation.For verbal communication,text is the highest level of unit in language system.During verbal communicating activities,participators usually handle with texts with complete meaning.Therefore,cohesion plays an important role in comprehending SL and forming TL.Textual cohesion is of great value for translation practice.In recent years,with the vigorous of domestic audiovisual industry,the huge interest brought by it begins to attract people’s attention.As a emerging industry,there is few information on audiovisual industry at home,and none related works providing solutions to investor’s questions.Besides,when I chose the text,the first thing came into my mind is the use of cohesion skills.The writer used a lot of cohesion techniques,including common references,such as personal reference and demonstrative reference,and relatively unique references,such as Zero-reference and comparative reference.It is the key and difficult point of the translating process.Therefore,the author chose the translation of The Economics of The Audiovisual Industry,the economic work written by Mario La Torre,as the case of analysis.As a common text type,economics texts have a series of mechanism to ensure coherence of the text.Based on the cohesion theory demonstrated by Halliday&Hasan and Hu Zhuanglin,a domestic scholar,I analysis translation skills of textual cohesion in economic works.According to my practical experience,I came up with questions and solutions in the translating process of economic texts,in terms of structural cohesion,reference and logical cohesion.
