| Compared with other languages in the world,Chinese, whether in its external form of writing or internal form of expression,is a very different one, while the existence of differences between languages usually brings some difficulties to language learners. This study starts from the language difference in none-space writing form of Chinese, surveyed 50 Intermediate and advanced overseas students from School of Inter-cultural Studies. The language test aimed at investigating the subjects’ reading comprehension ability based on word segmentation. The study was conducted with an experiment to segment the sentence with the “ word ” unit. The results showed that most subjects do not have a clear understanding of the concept of "word".When they are faced with the special lexical structure or sentence pattern, their word segmentation behaviors caused widespread bias in understanding. The characteristics of the subjects’ word segmentation behaviors in the process of reading are as follows: unpredictability, complexity and randomicity, tacitness and extensiveness of involvement. In the latter part of the thesis, the author classified and summarized the word segmentation bias according to the experimental results, tried to figure out the causes of existence of the bias from three aspects, namely, the Chinese language itself, the Chinese language learners and the Chinese international teachers, and then put forward some solutions and suggestions. In order to strengthen the operability, the author designed a lesson plan for reference, and hoped the teachers to develop the related teaching practice when their students are faced with word segmentation difficulties, and teach the word segmentation skill as a kind of reading skill so as to improve the efficiency of reading comprehension and achieve the goal of improving their reading ability. |
