This paper explores some of the problems in the English translation of the Tang Tales.The first two chapters mainly discuss the translation error from the perspective of the translator’s wrongly understanding.The third chapter discusses the comprehensibility and vividness of the translation.From the content and the reason of the translation error,the first chapter explores the translator’s misunderstanding of the special meaning of the vocabulary in the Tang Dynasty and the misunderstanding of the new words,ancient words,general vocabulary and cultural vocabulary in the Tang Dynasty.The second chapter explores the translator’s neglect of context of co-text,context of situation and cultural context.The third chapter discusses the translation of the key information,including the key cultural information and the lack of key details.Analyzing the negative influence of lacing the above two key information,mainly reflected in the reduce of comprehension and the lack of vividness of the characters and the pictures in Tang Tales.In this paper,it is found that the Translation error of Tan Tales has universal law.On the one hand,Tang tales was a historic product of the Tang Dynasty which both has the new words appeared in the Tang Dynasty and the traditional words appeared before Tang.In the process of translation,translator is often easy to ignore new words,traditional words and new culture,which led to the translation error.What’s more,Tang Tales belong to the category of classical Chinese text,and the classical Chinese text is very concise,so the context is very important to understand the text,it is because the translator’s neglect of the context leads to the generation of translation error.Regardless of the reader’s cultural background,the translator’s lack of reader consciousness also leads to the translation error of the translation.Therefore,in the process of translation of Tang Tales and even classical works,the translator should pay attention to the times of works,distinguish between different vocabulary characteristics,correctly grasp the meaning of new words and ancient words and cultural vocabulary,and pay attention to the importance of context to understand.Finally,the translator should have the reader consciousness and retain the key information in the original text by supplementing the and adding words to help the readers understand the text,to restore the vividness of the original text.
