Comparative Studies Of English Versions Of Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye From The Perspective Of Image-G Actualization

Known as the most excellent poem in the Tang Dynasty,Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye is created by Zhang Ruoxu,one of the “Four Scholars from Wuzhong”.It combines secluded and beautiful moonlit scenery with travelers’ grief of parting and life philosophy.This thesis tends to analyze three English versions of Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye from a new angle,that is,image-G actualization.The theory of image-G actualization is put forward by Doctor Jiang Qiuxia in Aesthetic Progression in Literary Translation: Image-G Actualization whose major contents are as follows: different from image in general sense,image in gestalt sense owns its gestalt qualities;from aesthetic aspect,cultural translation,which is both a linguistic transformation and aesthetic representation,should pay attention to actualization of image-G;cultural translation model can be divided into two steps: step one--comprehending the original text and translating it into image-G in mentality;step two--transforming mental image-G into target linguistic forms.After analyzing ideorealm representation in Chinese classical long poetry from the perspective of image-G actualization,it can be known that: combination of the theory with Chinese ideorealm shows the applicability of the theory in Chinese classical long poetry.With the aid of image-G actualization theory as well as statistics of quantitative methods,this thesis compares and contrasts three English versions on semantic,syntactic and textual levels.The following conclusions are achieved: First,the key of successful translation of classical long poetry lies in successful actualization of image-G.Second,realization of the wholeness in gestalt image is crucial to successful formation of Chinese classical long poetry.Third,harmony between the original and translated version is not only the aesthetic criterion that translators have to abide by,but also the aesthetic effect that translators pursue on the whole.
