Hot Spot Tracking and Research on International Maritime Convention by Shipping Industry is the research subject of Dalian Maritime University, delegated by the office of New International Convention in Ministry of Industry and Information.IGF Code is one of the main researches of the subject. As one of the important member states of International Maritime Organization(IMO),China has been engaged in the discussion on hot issues of International Maritime Convention presented by IMO's Subcommittees every year.To improve the performance of the shipping industry and raise China's Voice in IMO,it is extraordinarily important to understand the review progress of IGF Code and the formulation and revision of the relevant legal documents.IGF Code is an international legal document on the structure and equipments of ships released by IMO.Within it,the semantic function of prepositional phrases which are composed of one preposition and various words has a strong diversity and flexibility, which is the main problem during the process of English-Chinese translation. This report focuses on English-Chinese translation of the prepositional phrases in IGF Code.Based on Skopos Theory put forward by the German functional translation theorists, representative examples are shown in the report with its rough and refined translation.Through comparison and analysis, the translation problem of prepositional phrases used as an attribute, adverbial, predicative, and complement and used in succession is solved with professionally translated texts,in order to provide a specific reference to the translation of the prepositional phrases in similar texts in the future.
