The Semantic Analysis And The Culture Explanation Of "Wu" And The Words Including "Wu"

"Wu", as a word with a long history and rich cultural connotations, shows the inclusive national spirit and unique charm. Nevertheless, previous studies discussed "Wu" from single aspect without interaction of language and culture. Hence, we investigate its culture by combining with semantics. According to explanation of "Wu", we try to illustrate the implied social tendency and traditions thought in order to explore the culture of"Wu".This paper is based on several authoritative dictionaries to conclude 10 senses of "Wu", summary and analyze the way of its extension, and inspect the words involved "Wu". According to the words, "Wu" is divided into two parts of martial honor and martial dishonor. In order to analyze related traditional thought, historical policy and social customs, we check "Wu" from military, political and folk context. Therefore traditional culture of "Wu" in various stages can be investigated comprehensively.
