The postcolonialism is also called postcolonial criticism. As a culture phenomenon, it reflects a state of the society since the postcolonialism arised. Beginning Postcolonialism is a book that introduces this theory. It is an academic writing by a British scholar named John Mcleod. There are eight chapters which describe discussions of postcolonialism from various views:origins, differences of nations, background of feminism, ethnic identities and so on. It is written in formal English and has a lot of terms and complex sentences. So it is a little difficult to translate it in Chinese. This is a report on the translation of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 in the Beginning Postcolonialism. This report is based on the translation practice of the English-Chinese translation of the excerpts from the above-mentioned book which is my translation assignment, with the help of some instruments and the readings of some parallel materials of postcolonialism theory both in English and Chinese. The report gives a thorough description of the completion of the translation practice, supported by some specific cases from the text. This report also makes a summary in the end. There are four parts in the report. Part one is the introduction of the translation project. Part two is the description of the translation process, including preparations, difficulties and solutions during the translation process and so on. Part three illustrates with some specific examples of the translation with detailed analysis, including the analysis of both of the source text and the target text and the translation methods adopted as well. Part four is the conclusion, including the summary of the translator's understanding of translation from the task and some of the writer's further thinking on translation. The aim of this report is to record all the experiences of the author in her attempt to carry out the translation practice. It is particularly important that the author realize her own deficiencies and get to know what to do in her future practice so as to be a qualified translator.
