The development of world economy and increase of population causes the increasingly tense demand-supply situation. The shortage of the conventional energy has become an issue that limits the economic development. However, the unconventional energy, such as shale gas,oil shale and gas hydrate become the new darling of the energy exploration and development in the world because of its larger reserves, concentrating distribution and increasingly mature technologies. Therefore,it is necessary to translate some English texts on energy science and technology into Chinese. This thesis discusses the translation practice of Unconventional Energy Resources: 2013,based on the storage of conventional energy and the exploitation of unconventional energy sources and using the survey data to explain the of high value of unconventional energy and its less pollution and other characteristics as well. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the background and significance of this report, unique features of English for Science and Technology and EST translation. The second chapter describe the process of the translation, including the pre-translational analysis and preparation, translating and then proofreading after the translating. The third chapter analyzes the difficulties and strategies thereof in the process of translation under the guidance of Tytler’s Three Principles. The fourth chapter is the summary of this translation task, including the deficiencies and gains in the translation practice. The accomplishment of the translation task will provide convenience for Chinese scholars in the field of unconventional energy to investigate situation and ways to develop unconventional energy, and provide reference for further improvement on unconventional energy in China.
