A Report On The Translation Of Texts Of Science And Technology

The rapid development of science and technology in the 21 st century promotes the emergence of more and more scientific and technological texts.As texts of science and technology(TST)keep increasing,their translation becomes increasingly signif icant.This report is based on translation of two chapters of a scientific work entitled Climate Change,the Indoor Environment,and Health,which focuses on the global issue of climate change.Obviously,the source text possesses value of translation.The report is mainly intended to prove the feasibility of major translation techniques in the process of translating TST.It is also aimed at enlightening translators of TST and improving their translation.The report mainly adopts the method of qualitative analysis in the process of research and analysis.As TST shows the stylistic features of rigorousness,objectiveness,and formalness,the author follows the translation principles of accuracy,conciseness,and scientificity.Through analysis of typical examples,the author verifies the nece ssity of accurately translating scientific and technical vocabulary by constantly consulting reference materials and by paying close attention to specific context.Then,the author proves and illustrates the feasibility of flexibly employing proper translation techniques,such as linear translation,inverted translation and conversion,while translating long sentences,passive sentences,and nomina l structures,or handling different sentence patterns.The author emphasizes that translators of TST should grasp relevant professional knowledge,have a good command of both English and C hinese,and learn to utilize translation techniques in order to produce good versions of TST.
