A Comparison Of The Works To Defend The National Culture Of Lin Yutang And Singer

If we ask how to defense of the nation,people of different occupations have different ways.The soldiers use their sword to defend the motherland and the writers use their pen as a sword to defend the national culture.The multifaceted development increases the cultural communication of different ethnic groups.However,every ethnic groups may lose their “national character” in the complex artistic reception no matter who they are.So the defense of national culture had grown up to be an imminent problem.This article selected the Chinese nation culture and the Jewish national culture's “Guard” Lin Yutang and Singer to conduct a parallel study.Compare them in the defense of national culture and the use of the specific way from similarities to differences,in order to explore the most effective way for the writers who live in 21 st century to write the works of defending the national culture.The first part of this paper mainly from the macro level outlined Lin Yutang and Singer's consciousness of national culture.Separately introduce the “national culture” in Lin Yutang and Singer's works.At the same time introduce their advantages on writing the works to defense the national culture.In the second part,by reading the works of Lin Yutang and Singer carefully,classify the content of the works and summed up five similarities about the way Lin Yutang and Singer defend the national culture.There are the five ways: Create the assimilated characters to show how dangerous will be if someone lost his national culture;Carry forward the traditional ethical ethics;Clarify the misunderstanding;Elaborate the folk culture;Expose national's problems and explore the way to defend the national culture.The third part discusses Lin Yutang and Singer's differences in the way of national culture defense: Non-native and mother tongue creation,Lin Yutang written in English but Singer written in Yiddish.Lin Yutang's language style is called “Talk continuously and pleasantly ” but Singer's language style is called “Self-talk” Then analyzed the different effects of different creative ways will be in the transmission of national culture.The fourth part compare the same point and different points of Lin Yutang and Singer's creation and get two revelations:Writers should become the watchman of national culture;Writers should become the spread of national culture.
