| At present,most of the teaching models of college English are still teacher-centered,not only the time is limited,but also the content of the course is heavy,and students can’t master and internalize the content in the limited class time.Although the teachers will use multimedia,but students can’t fully integrate into the classroom teaching links,the students’ practical application of language ability,analyze and problem-solving ability,etc.can’t be effectively improved.In 2015,Ministry of Education printed and distributed Teaching Requirements for College English Course,and the Requirements proposed,"Institutions for higher learning should improve single teaching model centering on teachers’ teaching.New teaching model should be supported by modern information technology to make the change of teaching model is a transition from teacher-centered to that student-centered".In March,2012,Educational Informatization Ten-Year Development Plan(2011-2020)proposed,"level of integrated development of information technology and education has been prominently elevated.Students are encouraged to use information means to learn proactively,autonomously and cooperatively." Hence,making full use of the unique advantages of modern information technology to make the change of teaching model from teacher-centered to student-centered is an inevitable trend.In this paper,the researcher designs a flipped classroom teaching model for college English courses in combination with Chinese and foreign studies:Before class,students learn micro video,audio,PPT and other teaching content through QQ,WeChat and other network platform with the help of the Internet;in class,teacher answers difficult questions,while students have sufficient time for various classroom activities understanding and applying knowledge deeply and students can evaluate and summarize the knowledge and activities they have learned and done and the performance of their peers;after class,the students complete the task of writing assignments,peer evaluation of each other’s writing,and preview the teaching content of the next class.This research takes freshmen of senior English class in a University for research participants and conducts one semester.Meanwhile,the researcher applies this new model to teaching practice in order to improve students’ English comprehensive abilities and verify the validity of this model.Then,according to the results of experiment,it makes some suggestions on teaching.All of the students’English college entrance examination scores are all above 125 points and they all take part in the oral English test(face-to-face)and proficiency test.There are 25 students in experimental class and 22 students in controlled class.The experimental class is adopted the flipped classroom teaching model while the controlled class is adopted teacher-centered teaching model.Test,questionnaire and interview are the research instruments of the experiment.The author collects the data through the comprehensive English proficiency test,the results of student research projects,questionnaires and interviews,then analyzes with SPSS 16.0.The results show that students’ English comprehensive abilities in experimental class are significantly higher than that of the controlled class;in addition,students’ project research ability and oral presentation of experimental class are better than the controlled class.Questionnaires and interviews of experimental class show that the QQ platform and WeChat are very convenient to enable them to receive a variety of learning resources timely,not limited by location and time,but they worry about their mobile phone traffic;most of the students like flipped classroom teaching model,and when the learning task is not difficult,they develop the habit of autonomous and conscious learning;activities based on students’group cooperation,presentation,peer evaluation and after-school collaborative projects research improve their cooperation,analyzing and problem-solving,evaluation and communication abilities.Through analysis of correlations between self-efficacy and post-test,interest,it is further proved that this teaching model is helpful to cultivate students’ confidence in English learning.In summary,flipped classroom is a kind of effective teaching model which is worthy of being used in College English Teaching,which makes up the deficiency of teacher-centered teaching model,which effectively improves the teaching quality and the students’ learning effect.But in the arrangement of the learning tasks before class,it suggests combining teaching objectives and providing learning content with moderate difficulty and number for students;in addition,the school campus can provide free internet access,which is convenient for students to use mobile phone or computer free learning.However,some limitations of this study should also be pointed out,like the relatively small sample size,limited research time. |
