A Study Of Hujian In Chinese Narrative Tradition

The Hujian narrative on Records of the Historian profoundly influenced the later history and literary creation,which is widely known by its widely used,various forms and obvious marks.In this paper,the Hujian is taken as the object of study.In order to sort out the narrative tradition in ancient China,the paper would study the narrative tradition by tracing origin and finding tributaries,form the Hujian in Records of the Historian.The article is divided into three parts.The first part focus on sorting out the Hujian narrative experience before the Records of the Historian and analyzes the Hujian in Records of the Historian's inheritance to the previous narrative experience from the four perspectives,which is the source of Chinese narrative tradition.First,the way of thinking in Zhouyi,“original justice end” and the inter-hexagrams.Second,the repeated discourse chapter arrangement in Zhuangzi.Third,the precursor to implicit Hujian in Zuozhuan,Guoyu and Zhanguoce,etc.Fourth,the Hujian form of“Jiezaihu” in Spring-Autumn of Lü.These previous works have inspired Sima Qian in four aspects: the narrative way of thinking,the specific arrangement of the narrative,the narration of the implicit Hujian and the explicit marked narration.On the basis of inheriting the previous narrative experience,Sima Qian created to make it suitable for historical narration.The second part mainly analyzes the Hujian in the Records of Historian,and reconsiders it.In the first section,the article defined Hujian from two aspects of narrow and general sense and implicit and explicit Hujian,thus defining the Hujian.The second section analyzes the typical implicit Hujian in detail,which is divided into two types,one for recurring within an article and one for recurring in different chapters.The first type is divided into positive combines negative commentaries and the commentaries compensate the absence of the main part.The second type is divided into three parts according to how much are the described contents between the two narration: narrating and non-narrating,detailed and brief narration,and coexistence narration.On the basis of detailed classification,the third section discusses the specific function of the Hujian narration from the three perspectives of history,literature and collation and textual research.After a detailed analysis of the Hujian narration in the Records of Historian,the fourth section is a reflection on the Hujian narration from two angles: the system is not tight enough and the suggestive phrases is random and not rigorous and uniform enough.The third part discusses its later influence from the following two aspects.The first section explores the influence on historical works,which is divided into recurring in five genres and recurring in two different chapters,and recurring in two different chapters can be divided into two kinds: explicit and implicit.The second sectiondiscusses the impact of the Hujian narration on literary works.This section will discuss the three aspects of structural system,characterization and narrative techniques.In short,this article tries to trace the Chinese narrative tradition through the study of the narration of Hujian in the text of Records of the Historian,and tries to sort out the narrative tradition in China.
