Yun Yu Tang(1906-1992)was one of the most active female painters in Shanghai during the Republic of China period.In the early 1920 s,she had a study abroad experience in both Japan and France.Impressionist and post-Impressionist painting styles had a profound influence on her.This paper focuses on the analysis of YunYu Tang's watercolor created in the 1950 s and 1960 s,from the perspectives of depicting the subject matter,techniques,emotional expression,and style characteristic.It also discusses the social environment of her artistic style and how Western paintings and many other factors influenced her.Tang Yunyu is used as a case study of female artists in the last century.This paper explores the influence and function of the early female painters in the development of Chinese western painting and recognizes her historical stage and works.It will also be a reference for new era female artists to learn from.
