From "Powdering The Face" To "Facing The Powder":Policewomen Of Shanghai Of The Republic Of China

During its rule,Nanjing National Government had long been committed to China's modernization,among which the police construction is one important field.Meanwhile,the feminist movement in China also had a long-term development and made some certain achievements in all aspects of the society.This movement called for the establishment of policewoman in terms of police construction.Faced with the complicated situation of society,Shanghai,as the first metropolis in Far East,took the lead in building policewoman force.Although the dominion over Shanghai was changed several times,its policewoman system not only remained but also was improved.Therefore,choosing Shanghai policewoman,a typical example,as the representative was appropriate when studying modern China's policewoman.Based on analyzing newspapers,magazines and archival material,this paper will take Shanghai policewoman as the study object to introduce and comment on this new occupational group from the perspectives of founding background,recruiting standard,job motivation,training process,working condition and social evaluation.
