A Critical Discourse Analysis Of English News From The Perspective Of Intertextuality

2015 is the year of the 70 th anniversary of the world anti-Fascist war victory.As the main battlefield of World War II,and the victorious nation,China has made a significant contribution and huge sacrifice to this historic victory.In order to commemorate Chinese people’s struggle 70 years ago,Chinese military parade for the70 th anniversary of anti-Fascist war victory was held in Beijing in September 3rd.The military parade is unprecedented grand.Furthermore,foreign leaders are first invited,and so many foreign media are closely tracked.As a result,a large number of related news has entered all sectors of society.As an important objective of discourse analysis,BBC news reports have been widely concerned.Both domestic and foreign scholars have done research on a lot of BBC news reports from multiple perspectives,but there is no research on this event.Moreover,their research has some limitations to some extent.They only present the static characteristics of the news discourse.This paper selects several related BBC news reports on the Chinese military parade of the 70 th anniversary of anti-Fascist war victory for the critical discourse analysis using the new integration analysis model.It is based on the innovative perspective of the intertextuality theory and combined with both the metafunction of Halliday’s systemicfunctional grammar and Fairclough’s three-dimensional analysis model in social practice,discourse practice and text.It attempts to deepen the study of intertextualityand discovers its application mechanism in such kind of news reports text for the critical discourse analysis through the specific case study,and integration analysis model.Meanwhile,it tries to reveal the theory influence on discourses in a deeper level and judge whether BBC is fair to show the ideological purposes of China’s political image.This paper emphasizes on the embodiments in reported speech,extratextual relevant knowledge,vocabulary choice,and paragraph structure of the intertextuality theory in related BBC news reports,as well as functions including providing term explanation,achieving discourse coherence,limiting application range,and showing discourse authority.Especially in the field of critical discourse analysis,the theory provided a strong rationale is an extremely important analysis tool.In addition,it provides a new view for readers to read and understand from the perspective of intertextuality on related BBC news reports for critical discourse analysis.It helps us polish our eyes when faced those news reports made by foreign media.Moreover,it is necessary to clearly recognize the real intention of the author,and hold a dialectical attitude towards the so-called news reports.
