News, a main approach to getting social information for people, plays a vital role of guiding public opinion to some extent. The journalists from different countries usually choose different vocabulary to report the same event, which shows different ideologies hidden in the language. Therefore, the news discourse on same event reported by different countries is a better choice to make critical discourse analysis in order to disclose influence of ideology on discourse. This research aims at reveal the ideologies and power relations through critical discourse analysis of the news reports about China's V-Day parade. Thus, the author chooses the four news reports about the parade of China's 70th anniversary of V-Day selected from Chinese and American media respectively to make a contrastive analysis of disclosing the hidden ideologies in two contexts, under the theoretical framework of Fairclough's three-dimensional model, with Halliday's systemic-functional grammar and intertextuality as analytical tools. The analysis is carried out in the following three stages of the three-dimensional model. Firstly, at description stage, the linguistic features of the news discourses are analyzed from the perspective of transitivity system and lexical classification. Secondly, at interpretation stage, the news sources and reporting modes of specific intertextuality are employed to reproduce the process of the production and interpretation of the news discourses. Thirdly, at explanation stage, the influence of social structure on the ideologies of the news discourses are analyzed from the perspective of historical context and cultural context, which can explain the underlying causes of the ideological differences of the news discourses. The research results show that there exist similarities and significant differences in the ideologies of the news reports about China's V-Day by American and Chinese media. Firstly, on the level of description, as for lexical classification, the emotional color of the words selected by People's Daily and The Washington Post to describe China's parade tends to be approving and derogatory. As for transitivity system, People's Daily employs more material process and relational process than The Washington Post. In material process, the former focuses on the actions taken by China and other countries, which shows China's peace and friendship, and the important role of other countries that took part in the parade; the latter focuses on the action taken by the parade and President Xi, which shows the negative impact of the parade, and President Xi's control of the parade. In the relational process, the former believes that the parade is peaceful, and explains the misunderstanding by some media; the latter considers that the parade has potential military threat and anti-Japan tendency. Secondly, on the level of interpretation, as for the news sources, People's Daily cites different news sources, focusing on political leaders from different countries, while the quotations of The Washington Post mainly come from American side, which are centered on American scholars and experts. As for the reporting modes, the quotations of People s Daily and The Washington Post are mostly cited by direct speech. Thirdly, the distinctive political opinions and value orientations are the main reasons why the news are reported in different ways, which are greatly influenced by social factors, such as different interpretation of history by the two countries, different cultures, and the change of the relationship between China, the United States, and Japan.
