In Tony Morrison's The Bluest Eye,Pecola ended up with madness,Soaphead Church had pedophilia,Cholly raped his daughter,Pauline gave her love to a white family instead of her own,Geradine treated her husband and son with indifference, and Junior found entertainment in maltreating others. All these abnormal behaviors reflect the recessive harm to African Americans from racism. This paper aims to present the spiritual predicament of African Americans. It investigates how the internalization of racial discrimination from the white to the black is caused. This article is divided into five parts. The introduction briefly introduces the research purpose of this paper as well as giving a review of both domestic and abroad research findings. Then it proves that it's appropriate to analyze this novel by Psychoanalysis.Chapter One mainly analyzes the abnormal phenomena in The Bluest Eye by means of Psychoanalysis. This chapter investigates characters including Soaphead Church,Cholly,Pauline,Geradine,Junior and Pecola. In Chapter Two we are dedicated to searching for the origin of African Americans' spiritual predicament and making an insightful reflection.Chapter Three shows the way to improve this situation. The last part makes a summary of this paper.Reading The Bluest Eye by Psychoanalysis,we can see that Morrison pays attention to the mental field of African Americans and tries a new way to deal with race relations.Morrison enlightens African Americans about self-examination and self-salvation.Thus Psychoanalysis is effective not only to the personal psychosis, but also to the collective disease in some ways.Admittedly, this contribution focuses on the aspect of individual and family, which is an important supplement to the discussion of racism from a social perspective.
