Toni Morrison, the first black novelist to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature, has got more and more attention and recognition throughout the world. Her first novel The Bluest Eye (1970) is incredibly popular among readers since the publication. But many of researches and publications on the novel focus on standard of beauty, identity, racism, structure and narrative strategies as well. With the highlight of ecological crisis, the literary critics tend to focus on the concrete ecological issues. Therefore, this thesis attempts to discuss The Bluest Eye from an eco-feminist perspective to reveal the significance of eco-feminism in the novel and evoke the reader's awareness of eco-feminism.This thesis explores a new angle for the eco-feminist theory in terms of nature ecology, social ecology, cultural ecology and psychological ecology perspective. The thesis starts with illustrating the eco-absence phenomenon in the white dominant culture and consequences from the perspective of natural, cultural and social ecology, then explores the underlying causes of the phenomenon from the psychological ecology perspective, and finally comes to the implicit eco-feminist spirituality in the novel:creating a multi-cultural harmonious world.By adopting the theory of eco-feminism, this thesis attempts to analyze the theme of the text through close reading, hoping to offer a new angle of studying the novel.
