Exposition Mode For Culture In Translation Of Communication Between Cultures

This report is based on a translation project.So far,there hasn't been a Chinese version of Communication Between Cultures yet.This academic work is divided into ten chapters and the writer chooses Chapter 1,Chapter 2 and Chapter 9 as the material of this report.The total word count of three chapters is about 15000 words.This book gives readers an insight into different cultures and helps them improve their communication skills in a multicultural society.In this book,lots of compelling examples are listed to help readers understand the cultural teaching in both subtle and profound ways.Through three chapters'translation,this report explores exposition mode for culture in translation of Communication Between Cultures.It is found that eastern and western exposition mode for culture differ in the macro-structure and micro-structure level.As for the macro-structure level,exposition mode for culture is reflected in the general-specific pattern,hypothetical-real pattern,question-answer pattern,goal-achievement pattern and gap in knowledge-filling pattern.Amplification and rewriting are used in the translation process for consideration of readers' expectation.Regarding the micro-structure perspective,English texts tend to employ data and surveys to illustrate their arguments.Famous sayings and proverbs are also quoted in English cultural texts.In contrast,Chinese texts prefer to use proverbs,famous sayings,allusions and poems to talk about culture.In this report,the writer mainly discusses famous sayings,proverbs,statistics,surveys,words and stories based on the translation material.Both domestication and alienation are used to cope with differences in the micro-structure level.Concrete translation methods include rewriting,amplification,omission and literal translation.This report is significant in that it specifies concrete translation strategies of exposition mode for culture,which can provide insight for translation of academic works on intercultural communication.
