| Lighthousekeeping is the eighth novel of Jeanette Winterson,who is one of the most famous female writers in contemporary Britain.The whole novel adopts the way of"story within story" telling,putting stories of various time and space into the same frame through embedded narratives,which provides the novel with intertextual contexts,making the text full of tension.A number of scholars have already pointed out the narrative uniqueness of Jeanette Winterson including nonlinear narratives,time-space narratives etc.,but nobody has summarized or done analysis on the narrative pattern of Lighthouse keeping from the perspective of postmodernism.Therefore,I analyze from the aspects of intertextuality and metafiction how the writer provides an intertextual context through her unique narrative strategy,thus refine a concept called "lighthouse narrative",to highlight the theme of love and life in this text,so as to better interpret the artistic charm of Lighthouse keeping.The thesis consists of three parts,five chapters.The introduction presents an overview of Jeanette Winterson's life,her works as well as her novel Lighthouse keeping.I point out that it belongs to the genre of postmodern novels due to its postmodern narrative techniques,and give a research status view.The second part is two-four chapters.Chapter Two analyzes the intertextuality between Lighthouse keeping and other texts like Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde,The Death of King Arthur,Origin of Species and the Bible.Chapter Three gives an analysis of narratives from the angle of metafiction,and interpret narrative techniques like "story within story",exposed fiction,fragmentation.Chapter Four refines a concept called"Lighthouse Narratives".The last part is the conclusion.I generally summarize the narrative features of Jeanette Winterson,pointing out the meaning of "Lighthouse keeping" from the perspective of postmodernism and thoughts about the relationship among writers,readers and the text. |
