| Over the teaching of Chinese as a second language, preposition "Zai" comes as one of the early-learned prepositions. While doing a survey of Western students’ features of learning Chinese prepositions during their Chinese learning, Cui Xiliang(2005) once put forward that "Zai" is the most frequently used preposition among overseas students; moreover, "Zai+Location" pattern shows with the most errors among Zai’s usage. Together with "Zai+Location", error analysis based on teaching practices of nationals from different countries arouse heated debate among scholars. There are a few researches on the acquisition of "Zai+Location" pattern of students who have English as their first language. However, there are still few studies of error analysis based on comparison between English and Chinese. Therefore, based on the previous studies on this subject, this thesis displays a comparison of both structure and syntactic function of "Zai+Location" pattern in Chinese and its corresponding form in English to begin with. With both the previous comparison and error corpus extracted from HSK inter-language corpora which is based on the overseas students’ acquisition of "Zai+Location" pattern as the preparation work, the author would summarize the error types, features and factors that contribute to the errors. What’s more, the author would present and propose some teaching suggestions on teaching of "Zai+Location" pattern to students whose first language is English. |
