A Report On Translation Of Ezra Pound : A Literary Life

This English-Chinese translation report is based on the third chapter of biography Ezra Pound : A Literary Life.T.S.Eliot,Yeats and Hemingway are just as famous as Pound as a writer.Their biographies all have Chinese versions,but there is no published Chinese biography of Pound.Therefore,the report is expected to help readers to understand Pound’s works and provide some references for scholars of Pound’s studies.The report is divided into five parts.The first part is mainly the description and requirements of the translating task.The second part describes the translation process.The third part introduces theory of semantic translation and communicative translation and its application in biography translation.The fourth part is the core part which analyzes strategies,methods of biography translation with examples.The fifth part is the conclusion including translation experiences.The difficulties of the report translation are mainly the translation of long and complex sentences and the translation of words of semantic ambiguity as well.In Pound’s biography translation,semantic translation is mainly adopted and communicative translation is a supplement.The biography has the features of“documentary” and “artistry”,so the translator must first understand the relevant historical and cultural background,then chooses appropriate translation methods and applies translation strategies flexibly.
