Fryderyk Chopin(1810-1849),the famous Polish romantic composer and pianist. He is also one of the most influential artists in Europe. Chopin loved music in his childhood and his love continued all his life. He had high attainments in piano music composition through his continuous exploration and efforts. Chopin composed a series of militant piano pieces,for example,Revolutionary Etude. He also played nocturnes, ballades, and many kinds of music to the extreme. There is no doubt that Chopin is not only the soul artist who is of great significance to the whole western classic music, but also the excellent piano musician who has left precious wealth for the human society. He created the first genre of ballade and used it in the composition of music. At the same time,he showed romantic color in his works. All of his works showed romanticism in musical structure,the spirit level and harmony fabric and so on. Those features made ballades the most representative at that time. That laid a solid foundation and a new definition for the later ballades of instrumental music genres. So he was called Piano poet by western countries.The research direction of this paper is to get a more accurate understanding of music connotation from the angle of the backgrounds of four Chopin’s ballades creations by reading a lot of literature and combining with personal playing experience.In the musical structure, this paper has made detailed analysis of the creation of Chopin’s characteristics and innovation through reference and consulting the reviews of Chinese and foreign scholars.Through the analysis and performance practice’s combination,we will have more clear and detailed understanding of Chopin’s ballades, thereby enhancing higher level of thinking in the performance of works.
