At the turn of the 19 th and 20 th centuries, the Industrial Revolution broke the cultural tradition for thousands of years, leaving people in a bleak situation with lonely and alienated, which is helpless in spirit with the lost of personal value. During the two world wars, human beings mass killed their fellow, leading to the fact that the freedom, fraternity and humanitarian ideals are trampled mercilessly, and thus the Western civilization has been plunged into deep crisis. Modernist artists experiencing the trauma of the war, the twist of their value and the imbalance in their psychology, have reversed the past artistic ideals and tradition began to express the division and distortion of this era with absurd and grossly exaggerated image, or use obscure and abstract language fled into the purely spiritual world. Therefore, a strong negative and passive nihilism sweep of the modern art, which makes the depiction of body to be fragmented and unrecognizable. In order to recover the broken body in modern arts and defense the integrity and healthy of human body, Philip Pearlstine begin to treat things with a detach view. He begins to return to the realistic tradition and depicts pure and powerful body in a firm and emotionless way. He mixes the abstract art in realistic images, which achieve the perfect fusion of abstract and realism, purity and physical properties, and create a new style depicting the body.Pearlstine claims to be the defenders of the great humanist tradition; he expressed his high esteem to the body. In his painting, the body, fuses the border of abstract and reality, becomes a pure existence of corporality, and thus it is not only the principal part of feeling but also extracts the feel and personality of the principal part. The distinct perspective of the painter is astonishing; it is also happen to coincide with the popular body and subject view in the body phenomenology of 20 thcentury, which displays an amazing apriority. There are many animals and mechanical models, puppets and strange ion tools in the later painting of Pearlstine; they pieced together with other figures making the picture of the painting looks like a strange nightmare, which maybe is another kind of metaphor to the real living environments. With a religious-like detached perspective and unique method in structuring the screen, he explores the meaning and eternity in the reality of flesh.
