At present, recreational agriculture and rural tourism in our country is a popular and emerging tourism industry. In order to comply with the development trend of recreational agriculture and rural tourism and promote the healthy development of recreational agriculture and rural tourism, China Construction Industry Press published Recreational Agriculture and Rural Tourism Development Manual(hereinafter referred to as manual) in 2011. It summarizes development patterns, types and development of typical provinces and cities of recreational agriculture and rural tourism in our country. In order to promote recreational agriculture and rural tourism to foreign tourists and enhance the development of domestic tourism, the writer chooses to translate five chapters of Manual, namely, Chapter 3, 4, 5 and 6.Manual intends to deliver the relevant information about the situation of recreational agriculture and rural tourism development in China. As a government work report, Manual is concise in language clear in logic, free in form and impersonal in expressions. Therefore, the translator must pay attention to the understanding and reflection of target readers and ensure the authenticity of the information. In the course of translating the Manual, we confront many information losses, such as cultural loss, grammatical loss, pragmatic loss and aesthetic loss among which cultural loss is most outstanding. In view to this problem, the writer has adopted the strategies of translation compensation. The writer explores the corresponding translation strategies, such as replacement, division, specification, generalization and amplification in accordance to the six principles of translation compensation: principles of demand, relation, focus, minimal distance, the same function and consistency.
