A Differentiated Development Research Of Confucius Institute In Cross-culture Communication Context

Confucius Institute is as known as a national strategy promoted by the Chinese government. In 2004, the first Confucius Institute was established in South Korea. As of December 1st, 2015, 500 Confucius Institutes and 1000 Confucius Classrooms have established all over the 134 countries and regions of the world, which almost covering all the world densely populated areas. Accordingly, Chinese language and culture communication promotion step into a new stage. Generally, the develop direction and characteristics of a Confucius Institute greatly depends on the resource of co-operating agencies. More and more different kind of agencies and organizations joined to build a Confucius Institute which makes more and more industry characteristic Confucius Institute spring up. In 2015, 14 Global Model Confucius Institute were first published. Which, to some degree, reveals the Hanban’s attitude and programming of the differentiated development of Confucius Institute.The Confucius Institute at Wayne State University is located in Detroit, the largest city of Michigan. The WSU-CI begun formally operating in 2007, jointly built by Wayne State University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Through comprehensive observation of the unique and valuable sample, this thesis presents that differentiated development could be the development direction of the Confucius Institutes in the next phase.Through summarizing the communication channels and communication content, the efforts the WSU-CI made for differentiated development would be clear. As the author has a whole year working experience and studies in the institution, he believes differentiated development is an important way to broaden the influence of CI, and also, is a method could establish the individual characteristics.Rely on summarizing the advantages and disadvantages, the thesis is a comprehensive summary of the differentiated development of the Confucius Institute at Wayne State University case. A tentative programme of differentiated development is also proposed which is based on the analyzing of WSU-CI.
