A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of The Island Of Ziz And Other Two Short Stories Of Yuri Vynnychuk

The project report is based on the book The Fantastic Worlds of Yuri Vynnychuk, written by the Ukraine writer Yuri Vynnychuk, who is known for his grotesque and ironic writing style. The author is responsible for the translation of three short or medium dark novels—The Island of Ziz, Max and Me and Welcome to Ratburg, which are all characterized by black humor.For the time being, the interaction between Ukrainian and Chinese culture is scarce. Information about Ukrainian literary tradition, writers and their works is insufficient. Hardly is there any systematic and integrated research achievement about Ukrainian literature published here in China. The research on black humor fictions of domestic academe mainly focuses on those well-known American writers and their works. As to the counterparts in Ukraine, Chinese experts and scholars seem to have never paid enough attention. Promising Ukrainian writers like Yuri Vynnychuk is almost unknown to domestic readers or even scholars.In the meantime, translators all over the world have been debating on the application of domestication and foreignization in literature translation for decades. Domestication advocates catering to the reading habits of the readers while foreignization advocates retaining the language style of the author, which may seem to be weird to the readers. In this project, the author will try to probe into the practical application of these two strategies so as to provide some possible references for the heated debate.
