Analysis On The Meaning And Rhetoric Function Of The Chinese Letter Words

The Chinese letter words have attracted much attention by the scholars since they appeared, which focus on the use of the letter words, for example, whether the letter words belong to the Chinese vocabulary system or not, if it does, how can we regulate the use of the letter words. Besides, in the reality, the letter words are being used more and more frequently, and their quantity is increasing quickly, as a result, many dictionaries have been published. Writer agrees that the letter words belong to the Chinese vocabulary system, which makes the Chinese words more rich and colorful.In chapter one, a brief introduction to the research achievement of the letter words in the academic world, pointing out the deficiencies and the view of this paper.Showing the research value and innovative points of this paper.In chapter two, discussion on the classification and meaning of the letter words.Focus on the meaning of the letter word, analyze the feature of the meaning of the letter words by the comparison of similarities and differences from these aspects: semantic word-formation,analysis of meaning, the meaning in the context, different explanation in different dictionary, trying to find methods to analyze the meaning of the letter words.In chapter three, analyze the rhetoric function of the letter words. Point out that the English borrowings letter words follow the Chinese language regulation, for example,there is no plural when the noun followed by the quantifier. Besides, analyze the nine rhetoric function through irony, metaphor, euphemish, hyperbole, metonymy, nonce word, onomatopoeia, personification and quasiphysical.
