Karol Szymanowski,1882-1937,is one of famous composer in the first half of the 20 th century's and is the Poland greatest composer and educator after Chopin.He is a landmark musician who made brilliant contribution to the development of Poland's classical music and was well acclaimed as “The godfather of Poland modern music”.Szymanowski's whole career can be roughly divided into three periods: the early stage(1882-1913),the mid stage(1914-1918)and the late stage(1919-1937).“The second piano sonata”,which is the masterpiece of his works in the early stage,was composed between1910 and 1911.Technically,the achievement of this work is comparable with the new German Romantic Music.It is grandly structured and elaborately conceived,which representatively manifests his sonata style in that period.This sonata has been frequently performed on the stage worldwide and obtained a high evaluation.This paper,based on the theme and development of “ The second piano sonata ”,concludes the composing techniques and structures that involved in purpose of comprehensively understanding the features of his composing,via which we could better explore the brilliant mind of Szymanowski and enrich the analytical tools used for composition analysis.This paper is divided into three parts:the first part of Szymanowski's artistic life and“The second piano sonata”,the second part of “The second piano sonata” composing techniques of analysis,the third part “The second piano sonata” inheritance and artistic features.
