| The “Jiaofang” which was set up in the Tang Dynasty as a royal music institution made important contributions to the development of music in the era. There was no works descriptive of the “Jiaofang” music except the “Jiaofangji” written by Cuilingqin. The “Jiaofangji” with the only 2800 characters left has recorded 324 names of “Jiaofang” music of the Tang Dynasty. As the most important and representative music collection of the Tang Dynasty, the “Jiaofangji” recorded music used not only in singing but also as Chinese royal dance music in the Tang Dynasty, displaying music flourish and prosperity in the era.Ci poetry is connected so closely with music that, at the beginning, a song’s name was the titles(Ci brands) of Ci poetry, while Ci poetry was lyrics of the song. Ci poetry, made during the Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties, covered its all forms before evolving into an independent literature classification in the Song Dynasty. As the main source of titles(Ci brands), the “Jiaofang” music played an important role in the development of Ci poetry, some names of “Jiaofang” music transited to Ci titles eventually during the era. The royal “Jiaofang” music had been spread, reformed and used in public through different ways and for different meanings. Moreover, its combination with the Ci poetry gave clear clue on their imitate relationship.Firstly the names of the “Jiaofang” music recorded in the “Jiaofangji” were studied and then they were compared with 174 names of Ci poetry recorded in the book “Ci poetry of the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties”. There are 77 names applied in both Ci poetry and “Jiaofang” music. The common character between the 77 Ci titles was researched in order to find their influence on Ci poetry’s style in the era. Society background, music and dance, performance situation, writers and singers etc., all the factors above play different roles in this influence. Meanwhile, “Jiaofang” music’s transition to Ci titles can be considered as a signal that change of times and city entertainment culture have effected on literature development.More than 200 names of “Jiaofang” music are not used as the Ci title, which presents Ci poetry ranges narrower than music. Subject on border defence is included in music but not in Ci poetry, it may be concealed by entertainment atmosphere in the Tang Dynasty. While, the “Haofang” school, known as the important part of Ci poetry writers in the Song Dynasty, maybe just reused the “Jiaofang” music. |
