| Newspaper Reading Course is established for the grade three foreign students from the major of Chinese language or corresponding level students.Through the study of this course, students can get the improvement of reading ability, realize the general picture of Chinese newspaper articles, deepen the understanding of Chinese national conditions.The quality of teaching materials, to a certain extent, affects the result of teaching.The teaching materials of Newspaper Reading Course are newspaper and journal articles,which update very fast.But it takes time for the textbooks to publish, so timeliness is always controversial. In order to solve the problem,scholars generally believe that the combination of fixed teaching materials and supplementary materials should be taken to approach.However,the studies about supplementary materials are rare and teachers lack scientific and systematic guidance about how to select supplementary materials so as to influence the result of teaching.In order to try to solve the problem of supplementary materials’selection for Newspaper Reading Course,this paper analyzes the current most widely used three sets of fixed materials by methods of comparative studies and statistics,concluding the advantages and problems.The advantages are reasonable writing style,prepared in accordance with the topic,comprehensive coverage of the topic,genre reasonable distribution,reasonable glossary notes and moderate amount of exercises,etc.There are also some problems.The materials are too old and too hard.There is large difference in the arrangement of the quantity.The distribution in the main corpus of topic is not uniform and content design does not meet the cognitive law,etc.Teaching materials will eventually serve students.In order to know the needs of students for teaching materials,this paper adopt the form of questionnaire survey,which contains two versions.One is the feedback from the students who have learned the course.The other One is to investigate their understanding and expectation for the Newspaper Reading Course who have not learned the course.From the questionnaires we know that foreign students pay most attention to the interest of teaching materials and prefer reading cultural, social, economic and political news.New words in reading is the biggest obstacle for foreign students and they want to improve their reading ability and get vocabulary growth and deepen understanding of Chinese national conditions through the Newspaper Reading Course. On the basis of analysis on fixed materials and questionnaire, the principles of the supplementary materials’selection are extracted.The selection of content should adhere to interesting, moderate difficulty, practical, progressive principles.Finally,the fixed type areas of four major newspapers are selected as the source of supplementary materials.This paper analyzes the content of the newspaper articles from space and super steel rate to make sure if they are appropriate or what level they belong to as the supplementary materials.What’s more,teachers can find a flowchart,which guide them to extract the supplementary materials according to their needs.We are hoping to provide guidance for the teachers of Newspaper Reading Course to choose the supplementary materials so as to meet the students’need and increase teaching effectiveness. |
