Research On Wennanci's Musicality

WenNanCi(???)originated at Susong of Anqing and Dongzhi of Chizhou.At Susong,it reflectscharacteristics of traditional operas and folk arts in Anhui anddiverse art forms at Susong.Based on related literature and field surveys,this work follows a systematic approach and incorporates classical methods in ethnomusicology and focuses on research on WenNanCi from the southwest of Anhui.First,starting from historical background of WenNanCi,through analysis on geographical changes,this work illustrated how changes developed in WenNanCi in terms of troupes,tracks and performance styles.This work not only shows how WenNanCi reflects the local culture,but also its artistic characteristics in structure.Second,based on literature and score archives,this work further discusses the basic rule WenNanCi is follows by analyzing its tune structure,modality,tonality,and the relationship with musical instruments for accompaniment.Finally,by comparing WenNanCi with related operas,this work addresses WenNanCi is uniqueness through analysis on its crucial role in traditional operas.This work intends to offer a theoretical basis for further analysis on development of other folk operas.
