The winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize for literature Orhan Pamuk is one of the best novelists of modern Europe. His works have been translated into 40 languages and published worldwide. My Name Is Red is the most representative work of Pamuk. This novel has drawn widely attentions of readers of all ages and become research focus. There're two reasons: on one hand, the writer chose miniature which is full of Turkish national characteristics as his theme. On the other hand, Pamuk use miniature skills to structure the whole chapters. The novel is just like a miniature which is painted by words. Based on close reading, my thesis used the theory chievements of narratology and postcolonialism to analyze the text. Starting with the features of miniature, I focused on the novel's narrative techniques and the metaphorical meanings of the color “red”, “green” and “black”. Further more, combined with the theory of cultural hybridity, I also made a further exploration of the aesthetic significance of My Name Is Red.
