A Practic Report On Cohesion And Coherence In C-E Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of “Internet And Medical Care” Forum

In Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,the interpreted work is usually found to be deficient in coherence due to the different discourse mechanisms of the two languages.In this interpreting practice,the discourse of speaker is characterized by looseness and absence of logic and stratification.As a consequence,there exist many coherence and cohesion issues in the discourse.For this reason,this interpreting practice report focuses on cohesion and coherence in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting with three addresses in the 13 th CISIS “Internet and Medical Care” Forum as the interpreting material.The major problems in this interpreting practice include referential ambiguity and zero-anaphoric reference,logical looseness and incoherence in Chinese run-on sentence.Under the guidance of cohesion theory,the solution of using explicit cohesive devices to realize coherence is adopted in the thesis including using specific referent,changing sentence pattern,adding logical conjunctions,explaining implicit information,supplementing cue words and reorganizing information.According to case analysis,the theory of cohesion and coherence has an important guiding function on interpreting practice.More importantly,in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,explicit coherence method can effectively enhance the coherence of English expressions,and therefore proving its significant practical values.
