| In January 2015, the author participated as the interpreter in the teacher training program for preschool education in Changsha between a local kindergarten and its Austrian counterpart. As a practice report of this class interpreting task, the author gives an analysis and summary of the interpreting recordings, hoping to gain a better understanding of class interpreting and give suggestions for the improvement of future work.This report firstly gives an introduction of this interpreting task, including the background information and different interpreting processes. According to the experience of this class interpreting task, the author summaries several features of class interpreting. Then it describes and analyzes several challenges the author encountered in class interpreting, such as the pressure on short-term memory and the difficulty in appropriately exerting the interpreter’s subjectivity, as well as gives suggestions for solving these problems in the future. At last, conclusions are drawn that a robust short-term memory and the appropriately expressed interpreter’s subjectivity are both vital for the success of class interpreting, and more effort should be made by the interpreter to improve these qualities. |
