Research On Metaphor Translation In Wedding Couplets From The Perspective Of Conceptual Integration Theory

Wedding couplet is a unique literary form in China, on the technique of writing, mostly utilizing the good things as a metaphor or symbol, creating a beautiful, joyous, and warm atmosphere. Wedding couplet contains rich Chinese culture connotations, and demonstrates the yearning of Chinese people for the well-being life. Now, in the era of promoting Chinese culture “going out”, as the carrier of Chinese nation's thousand-year culture, the effect of wedding couplets' translation cannot be neglected. In addition, wedding couplets have unique literary structure and rich moral connotation of Chinese characteristics, which has always been the focus of translation study. As the translation activities are held in the brain, it is difficult to study it directly and reveal the cognitive essence of translation clearly. Therefore, a cognitive study of translation can make the translation study into a wider field and form a complete theoretical system, for some problems in the translation can also make the interpretation reasonable and effective. In recent years, as a new cognitive theory, conceptual integration theory has been gaining increasing. Because its structure characteristics is dynamic unified, people use this theory to analyze various cognitive activities and cognitive phenomenon. Since Wedding Couplet is a miniature of Chinese national literary form, a good translation will better help foreigners to understand not only the Chinese literature and cultural tradition, but also the characteristics of the Chinese language and the national spirit of the Chinese people, and eventually promote cultural communication and carry forward the Chinese culture at and to a higher level.Through the powerful cognitive explanatory of conceptual integration theory, this paper combines this theory with the cognitive process of translation. Due to psychological space mapping, translation activities can be presented to us more clearly and directly; and the existence of the layer structure can also explain the reasonability of multi-versions and retranslation versions in translation activities. Therefore, based on the conceptual integration theory, the study of translation can promote the wedding couplets' translation work effectively, and can also discuss some translation problems existing in present, so as to put forward the objective translation strategies.
