The large scale national symphony "Dunhuang Music & Painting" made the first trial performance at Gansu Jincheng Theatre on February 29, 2012, premiered in the National Concert Hall on March 4 in the same year. Jing Jianshu, one of the composers, served as the conductor, Gansu Theater Orchestra and Xi'an Conservatory National Orchestra cooperated to present. This work has been jointly completed by Zhao Jiping, the artistic director, composer Jing Jianshu, Han Lankui and Zhang Jian. The whole work consists of seven chapters, "Mogao Aeolian Bells", "Xiliang Music and Dance", "Story of Crescent Moon", "General Trip", "Dunhuang Fair", "Flying Apsaras", "Dunhuang Fu", where the sixth movement was created by composer Zhao Jiping, and what is worth mentioning was all the movements were inspired by the scenes and stories of Dunhuang frescoes. To complete this work, the composers made a lot of field trip to Mogao Caves, researched a lot of information and finally presented this magnificent work to the public. The ancient Dunhuang music reflected by the music and the unique atmosphere integrating with the modern music making the movements to have strong features in terms of style,conceptions, scenes.This paper has made systematic study of the sixth movement "Flying Apsaras" of "Dunhuang Music & Painting" in three major parts. The first part introduces the whole work and Mr. Zhao Jiping, the creator of "Flying Apsaras"; the second part is the key part of this paper, which has made in-depth analysis in terms of the creationbackground, structure, tonality, orchestration and theme. The third part is to describe the generality of Dunhuang music in recent years, the origin of the generality, characteristics of "Flying Apsaras", including its artistic value, cultural value and heritage value, etc.
