As a political revolution always leads to a revolution in the film industry,a regime change will surely result in a great change in film genres. With all the possibilities at the turn of the 20 th century, the Soviet Union was finally taken down by the dynamic October Revolution. The world was divided to the socialistic camp and the capitalism camp ever since, and art, with all its forms, became a powerful weapon for the two camps to confront politically and ideologically. The Bolsheviks then empowered their long standing tradition of giving a religious interpretation to the function of art to cater to Soviet's urge for a kind of film that could educate and stimulate the public. As the seventh art, film was without doubt put in the control of the government. With the establishment and development of Socialism,Socialist Realism,a theory with strong ideological connotations appeared in Soviet. The central principle of Socialist Realism was fidelity to the Party, meaning artists has to propagandize the policy and ideology of the Communist Party.Another principle of this theory was to center on the masses, which required the artists to describe the life of the ordinary with sympathy. To conform to the two principles, art must have the function of educating the public and providing role models, especially positive heroes. To a certain extent, the socialist realism film theory runs through the Soviet art history and has a influence on the whole art circle.Especially in the film field,Soviet has always been hoping for a kind of film that can educate and stimulate the public.Looking back at the history of Soviet film's development,it's not hard to see that it has been evolving in multiple dimensions, including politics, culture and art.If montage is crucial in the world film history, then to Soviet films, the socialist realism is inevitable. Thus Soviet films under the command of Bolsheviks had its own unique style, and this uniqueness did not just happen: it naturally inherit the essence of films in the former Soviet Union, and also foreshadowed the following development of Soviet films.Regardless of the constant changes in politics, those remarkable movies will always be there.
