| With an explosive development of modern science & technology and a deepening integration of the global economy, scientific and technological exchanges between China and foreign countries have become increasingly frequent and dependent. Thus EST(English for Science and Technology) is of great significance and necessity in the field of translation as a response to its growing demand. And we translators in return are supposed to deliver an accurate and smooth expression of the original texts to promote Sino-foreign communication and China’s scientific and technological development by adopting appropriate and flexible translation techniques.EST emerged in 1950 s along with the swift scientific and technological progress and now has developed into a whole new field. And much attention has been paid to the translation of EST texts with the features and some typical translation techniques applied. But in some narrower scientific fields, such as laundry chemistry, translation practices are still in a minority, leaving alone the unique linguistic features and the translation techniques adopted in the translation process.During the translation, the author makes preparation and collects information by various reference tools, accumulating some translation experience, therefore it is of necessity and significance for the author to share her experience and ideas concerning this translation task with translators interested in science writing. Consequently the report initially introduces the background information of the task and then presents the whole translation process which includes such steps as time planning, implementation of the task, evaluation of the client and even response to emergencies.Through the translation of Introduction to Laundry Chemistry, the author discovers the unique linguistic features of the original text in the lexical and syntactic levels, and adopts corresponding translation techniques such as conversion, amplification and division during the translation process. The author hopes to provide reference for translators engaged with science writing, especially with laundry chemistry by sharing her experience gained from thistranslation task, and expects that more intelligent translators can participate in the translation of science writing to contribute to more accurate and professional texts as references for less-experienced translators. |
