Manifestation Of Interpreter’s Subjectivity In Escort Interpreting

With the rapid development of globalization, the contacts and communications among different nations are becoming more and more frequent. The indispensability of interpreting is fully shown in this process, and interpreters, as the bridges among different cultures, are playing increasingly important roles.Traditional interpreting theories emphasize the importance of faithfulness and advocate the invisibility of interpreters, which put interpreters into a subordinate position. While with the thriving of cultural exchanges and business exchanges,much more prominence has been given to interpreter’s subjectivity, and the traditional interpreting theories have been challenged.Actually escort interpreting is widely applied to various fields in modern society,thus interpreter’s subjectivity in escort interpreting is of more practical meanings than any other types of interpreting. Subjectivity helps escort interpreters to enhance their interpreting skills, understand their own work and improve the quality of interpretation. This thesis is supposed to analyze interpreter’s subjectivity through the author’s own escort interpreting experience and try to explore better ways to provide escort interpretation of higher quality.In this paper, Chapter One gives the description, requirements and preparation work of the project. Chapter Two provides the definitions of escort interpreting and interpreter’s subjectivity and introduces the coverage of escort interpreting and application of interpreter’s subjectivity in escort interpreting. Chapter Three analyzes the manifestation of interpreter’s subjectivity in this project as well as the interpreting strategies that need to be taken from five aspects. Chapter Four makes an assessment of the author’s performance in the project and provides the major findings and limitations of this thesis as well as the suggestions for further studies.This paper believes that if an escort interpreter can play his/her subjectivity appropriately by adopting different interpreting strategies, the ideal interpreting results can be achieved.
