With the rapid development of economic globalization and the implementation of “Going Out” strategy, more and more domestic infrastructure construction companies are looking for foreign infrastructure projects. As the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank was officially established on 25 December 2015, it will bring more overseas opportunities to domestic infrastructure construction companies. The feasibility report of infrastructure construction project plays an important role in project approval, financial support and preparation for anti-risk strategies. Therefore, the translation quality of the project feasibility report has a significant impact on the implementation of overseas construction. As the report is based on the translation of an international road project feasibility report, this paper takes Final Feasibility Report – Road Project Preparatory Facility – National Highways – Group 1 Road A005 – From Badulla Rest House To Uva/East Boundary as a research object. This translation project assigned by Chengdu Hua Chuan Road and Bridge Group is an English text, belonging to informative texts. After a preliminary analysis of the source text, the author finds that the translation of informative texts focuses on the semantic equivalence between source text and target text. Namely, the target text should reproduce the information of the source text with the most natural and idiomatic target language rather than rigid equivalence at lexical level. Functional Equivalence Theory proposed by Eugene A.Nida(1998:314) in the 1980 s aims at reaching the equivalence between the original receptors who understand and appreciate the text and the receptors of the translated text who understand and appreciate the translated text, instead of the correspondence in lexicon and grammar between the source and target languages. Functional Equivalence Theory can be the theoretical guidance for the translation of the project feasibility report. According to the theoretical basis, the author can choose relatively effective translation techniques. This paper is based on the translation of the Chapter 9 “Environment Effects” in Final Feasibility Report – Road Project Preparatory Facility. During the translationprocess, many problems are found, such as unification of technical terms and abbreviations, diction, translation problems in lexical and syntactic level. According to Functional Equivalence Theory and the characteristics of the source text, this paper provides some solutions to the above problems, such as conversion, amplification, order translation, order-changing translation and division, which have been exemplified carefully. |
