Addressing terms is an indicator that's used in communication. It represents the national ethnicity of humanity and history, the structure of words and addressing terms have great differences in every language. However, both Thai and Chinese language systems were derived from Sino—Tibetan, in the past Thai addressing terms were affected by Chinese in many ways yet, The development of Thai and Chinese addressing terms were independent from each other. Although they both have common characteristics but they are different.Therefor it's that similarity that will enable us to understand the features of addressing terms in both languages which in turn will benefit in education purposes by studying the differences between the two languages.To sum it all up, in this comparative study of addressing terms in Chinese and Tai language systems. We discussed the habits of the two languages from personal pronouns title, title appellation, relations appellation, name and title intimate, even described their differences. The paper can help both, Chinese and Thai students, to learn these two languages, also it had showed to be useful when translating as the translation staff need to take the difference in backgrounds plus cultures into account. Translation process need to consider the ethnic, religious, cultural, etc. differences only in this way can we use language freely.
