| Anne of Green Gables is one of the masterpieces of Lucy Maud Mongomery-a Canadian woman writer. Since published, it was consistently fond of by readers both from abroad and at home. The book was introduced to Chinese readers since last century. While there have been more than 10 Chinese versions, the version chosen here by Sun Xiaoyu in 2011 is widely accepted by Chinese young readers for its simple and elegant language.Translation research, for a long time, has always focused on the equivalence of source text and target text, and explored the fidelity of the target text to the source text. The problem with traditional translational approaches is that they ignore many important factors that are essentially involved in the translating process, including the author of the original text, the translator, the target receiver. Thus, while Vermeer criticized on the traditional translation theory, he proposed also his skopostheorie. He considerd that translation was a purposeful communication action. In the process of translation, translators should take purposes of translation into account. Moreover, translation purpose determined translation strategies. To a certain degree, skopostheorie is a challenge to the traditional translation theory. It not only provides guidance for translation practice from the new perspective, but also offers the theory foundation for the evaluation of translation works. The thesis, under the guidance of skopostheorie, by adopting descriptive research method, on one hand, attempts to assess whether Sun Xiaoyu’s Chinese translation of Anne of Green Gables realizes the three rules of skopostheorie. On the other hand, the thesis tries to explore Sun Xiaoyu’s translation strategies and methods in the process of realizing the three rules of skopostheorie.By referencing Chen Jianjun’s thesis research model in 2004, on the basis of the three rules of skopostheorie, the author explores Sun Xiaoyu’s Chinese translated version of Anne of Green Gables on the following aspects: vocabulary, colloquial words and expressions, sentence structure, rhetoric, idiom and culture. The thesis also discusses the different translation strategies and methods employed by Sun Xiaoyu in the translation in order to realize the three rules of skopstheorie. The author arrives at the conclusion that Sun Xiaoyu’s Chinese translated version of Anne of Green Gables realized the three rules of skopostheorie by analyzing many examples of Sun Xiaoyu’s Chinese version of Anne of Green Gables. Moreover, Sun Xiaoyu used a lot of translation methods such as literal translation, free translation, addition, transliteration, conversion and abridgement in order to realizetranslation purpose. The author finds that skopostheorie plays an important role in the children literary translation, and provides feasible translation strategies for translators. |
