This paper explores the necessity and feasibility of applying the Skopos theory to Children’s literature translation in a view to find guidelines and comparison standards to improve the quality of Children’s literature translation. The first and second chapters introduce thecharacteristic of Children’s literature and the challenges it faces, thus to underline the significance and necessity of theoretical study. Chapter Three introduces the Skopos theory, which is the theoretical basis of this paper. The Skopos theory, being the most important theory of Germany functional school, is a shift from linguistic equivalence to a more function-oriented one where a translator should try to meet expectations of the target language by following the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Chapter four, the central part, is a comparison study of two Chinese versions of Anne of the Green Gables. Based on the three rules of the Skopos theory, this paper identifies translation strategies and comparison standards to realize readability and education through comparing two Chinese versions. This paper, through case studies, identifies a set of translation strategies. For instance, to realize readability, translators should use simple and understandable words, separate complex sentences into simple ones, make necessary annotations and omissions as well as explain the pronouns. To realize the purpose of education, we should teach child readers the right values and create a sound language learning environment by using four-character structure, rhetoric and mimetic words.
