| Verb reduplication possesses a certain status in Chinese grammar.As a unique morphological changes of Chinese,it has generated considerable discussion in the academia.Based on monosyllabic verbs and combined with research results made by previous scholars about morphological changes of verb reduplication in Chinese language,this thesis analyses the monosyllabic verbs in the modern Chinese Dictionary(6th Edition) one by one, makes a classification of which be able to overlap and which be not, explores the regular internal language phenomenon existing between the overlapping words,and initiates a thinking on whether there has other classification between the monosyllabic words that unable to overlap.In the process of integrated analysis of a large number of words.This paper mainly includes the following six parts.In part one, the paper gives a brief introduction about category research results and grammatical properties of verb reduplication and the profiles about whether a verb have reduplication.In part two,by comparing the morphological changes of the Indo-European languages and the modern Chinese, the thesis distinguishes the similarities and differences between them.The part three is the difficult part of the article.It focuses on the boundaries between word and non-word,suggests that not every entry in the dictionary is word,and determines the object of study is monosyllabic word.The part four is the highlight of the paper,mainly discussing the monosyllabic verb and verb reduplication.In this part, every entry marked with the verb in the "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(sixth edition) is listed and analyzed whether it can be able to overlap. For the verb not be able to overlap,the further explore is done to see if it belongs to other part of the speech.The fifth part gives the summary of the full text,clears the purpose of the study,and proves that the verb reduplication as a grammatical mean is in line with the common nature of language.The last part is the conclusion.It points out the deficiencies of this paper. |
