Chinese calligraphy is a broad and profound Chinese traditional culture, which was spread to all over the world as the representative of the Chinese culture in the long history. Therefore, Chinese calligraphy should play a critical role during the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language today. However, calligraphy teaching does not function well during the course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Many problems which exist in the calligraphy teaching have not been solved yet.And people do not fully realize the importance of it as well. According to the author's calligraphy teaching experience in the International Exchange College of Inner Mongolia Normal University, the calligraphy teaching should have the role of spreading the Chinese culture and assisting teaching of Chinese characters instead of just a way to present an art show in the Chinese language teaching class. The article is divided into five parts, which are presented to solve the problems, and the author's own views are put forward.The first part is the introduction of the thesis, which expounds the background and significance of the research, and lists out the previousstudies on this aspect.The second part shows the spreading of calligraphy, compares the brilliant achievements in history with the current situation of calligraphy teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and sums up the current problems in calligraphy teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language based on the questionnaire survey data.The third part delivers the content that the teaching principles and methods that the calligraphy teaching should be followed with are put forward according to the author' s experience and expectation of foreign calligraphy teaching.On the basis of the problems that the author sums up in the second part and the principles and methods mentioned in the third part, the corresponding countermeasures about the calligraphy teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language are summarized in the fourth part,and the view that calligraphy teaching should work as a course to spread the Chinese culture and enhance the effect of Chinese character teaching is put forward.The author shows a calligraphy course case in the fifth part.The sixth part gives a summary of the full article.
