Scholars have widely conducted lots of studies on politics, economy as well as moral and ethics in Homeric Time, using Homer as an important material. Belonging to social moral and ethics, though scholars made little study of loyalty of Homeric Time directly, they have provided many studying theories and methods.Loyalty in Homeric Time is mainly embodied in the relationships of individuals, such as wife to her husband, one to his friend, slave to his master. However, one's loyalty to his alliance and community is neither obvious, nor being public moral requirements. Later on, to some extent, the loyalty in Ancient Greek society has been both changed, and carried on at the same time. The loyalty to city-state has been accepted and emphasized, but laid after self-interest when self-interest has confilict with collective interest.
