Since 1970 s,Japanese literature has entered an era of diversity. In particular,a group of female writers with innovative consciousness has been rising up by their new ideas and skills of literature in Japanese literary world. In 1996,Yu Miri won the Akutagawa Prize, which is one of the highest awards for literature in Japan, and she was also the youngest winner of this prize. As a result,Yu Miri has risen up to prominence quickly and her works made a great impact on Japanese literature. In recent years, for Yu Miri's Korean identity, autobiographical writing technique, subversion of traditional moral ethics, avantgarde style of life(to have a baby before marriage and cohabit with young boys),as well as publication of several fictions and frequent prizes, she became a favorite in the literary world and she was called as the new emerging representative of “female writer” and “female literature”.The study and discussion on Yu Miri's works increasingly appeared. However, the author has found that there is rare writer theory on Yu Miri and no research monograph on her until now.In a word, now there is a lack of high concentration on Yu Miri in domestic literary world. The study subjects of this thesis are Yu Miri and her Cradle by the Edge of the Water.Based on the former study achievements on Yu Miri's works, this thesis focuses on “marginal” literary concept in the Cradle by the Edge of the Water, and it is also a comprehensive research on the double revolt of the double fetters as the insularity's rejection to the cultural identity and the traditional social customs' depression on females. The thesis consists of four parts: introduction, main text, conclusion and appendix. The first part makes an introduction on Yu Miri and her work, then indicates the current research state of Yu Miri's works and expounds the significance of the thesis and main research methods. The main body includes three chapters.Based on the demonstration in the introduction, the first chapter mainly explains Yu Miri's special identity of Korean in Japan, her “marginal” literary consciousness and the multiple context created by this concept. It defines the “marginal” literary concept from two points of view, namely the insularity's rejection to the cultural identity and the traditional social customs' depression on females. The second chapter mainly discusses the double resistance of the “marginal” people in Cradle by the Edge of theWater from two aspects. One is the self seeking in colonial culture, and the other one is the thorough subversion on masculinity. The third chapter indicates the trend of the times and aesthetic interpretation of Cradle by the Edge of the Water, which reflects the current problems in reality faced by the Koreans in Japan. The macro reexamination of era for the work aims to dig the clues left by Japanese colonialism in the deepest area of writer's heart and reveals the practical significance of the writer's work in present society. At the same time,it also focuses on the sublimation of writing techniques of the fiction. The part of conclusion makes a summary of the thesis and points out the gains and shortcomings in the research as well as the subjects in need of study in the future.
